Resignation from New Madrid city position effective immediately
NEW MADRID - Claude McFerren, New Madrid's long-time chief of police, has resigned from office.
McFerren, who has been a part of the local police force since the mid-1990s, submitted his resignation Wednesday afternoon to New Madrid Mayor Donnie Brown. The resignation was effective immediately.
According to City Manager John Gilbert, McFerren cited "health issues and wanted to take early retirement."
