Clifton Poole

JACKSON - Clifton G. Poole, 84, died Feb. 17, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Feb. 23, 1919, at LaForge, son of the late William C. and Josephine Gardner Poole, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge. A recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal, he was of the Baptist belief.

On Oct. 7, 1939, at Charleston, he married Leola Evans who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, William C. Poole of Kansas City; two daughters, Joan Hodges of Scott City and Linda DeFord of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, John Albert "Jack" Poole of St. Louis and Paul Poole of Park Hills; one sister, Frankie Washburn of Caruthersville; and six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

One grandchild preceded him in death.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with George Foster and Derieck Hodges officiating.

The Missouri Military Honor Guard and VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau conducted graveside military rites at Cape County Memorial Park.
