Call 471-6636

There used to be a lady who did alterations on clothing. I think her name is Alice and I don't know her last name and lost her phone number. I was wondering if she is still doing alterations.

Alice Turk operates Alterations Unlimited by appointment. Call her at 471-6231.

Can you please tell me when the Malone Avenue Grill is going to open? I'm hungry!

The Malone Avenue Grill is open 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday.

The mentioned closing of the Matthews Elementary School may have stirred up a larger hornet's nest than the current New Madrid School Board may have anticipated. That should be less than surprising, given the limited contact and no representation the board has in the north part of the district. My question is this. As the Matthews and north county area explore options, what will happen if the $43 million tax base (one of the largest in the district) in this part of the county is removed from the central district? That's just about where we've been pushed us by even threatening to close our elementary school. Do the taxpayers of New Madrid and the few communities left in what could be a rump school district want to make good that tax base? Won't you still have a large campus to support, even without us in the district? Just curious! If you want to know more go to http://www.geocities.com/jsteve11/matthews.html.

To the Matthews School District, if you lose your school you lose your town. We were about to lose our school and we rose up, got mad and got it stopped. We got out to vote and surprised a lot of people. Promises can easily be forgotten. We love our town. I hope you keep your school. Good luck.

I go to school in the New Madrid County District. I don't think the kids should have to get up at 6 a.m. and be on the bus for like an hour and a half. That wouldn't be right for me or my Mom or my best friends. If you could, I wish you would really try to stop this because I think it's gone too far.

I would like to SpeakOut about the person who thinks a criminal should spend 50 percent of their prison sentence. First of all that is the stupidest thing that I have ever heard! We don't need these criminals out on the streets. Most of them want to be in prison anyway. That is why most of them get released and go right back within a year. The way they see it, they get three free meals a day and a warm place to sleep at night. All for free! If the truth be known your whole family is probably in a prison, and that is why you see things the way you do. The way I see it, the criminals should serve 100 percent of their time. They are the ones that put themselves in there.

This is for the person who said we do not need new prisons and that if an inmate has served half their time they should be let go. What's wrong with you? You think you want a murderer out on the street so they can go get a job? I don't think so. You must have a relative who is an inmate. If they commit a crime, they should do their time.
