Your View 10/18: Help the animals

Friday, October 18, 2002

The Sikeston Area Humane Society will be having an Octoberfest-Bike Show as a fund-raiser for the animal shelter from 3 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Jaycee Rodeo grounds. The bike show will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and motorcycle enthusiasts should enjoy viewing many fine bikes, especially the Harleys.

At 4 p.m., music by the band The Effort will begin. From 5 to 9 p.m. Gary Hampton and Slight Return will provide more music for the evening. Boston butt sandwiches will be for sale and all the beer you can drink for an admission fee of $10 per person. The proceeds from this event will go to support our local shelter, which is in desperate need of funds to help care for the vast number of dogs and cats that are abandoned.

We would also like to let the public know that October is national Adopt A Shelter Dog Month and the Sikeston ARea Humane Society is offering discounted fees this month.

Instead of $75, it is now $50 for a dog; and instead of $50, it is now $35 for a cat. This still includes a spay or neuter and the usual other benefits. We have very many nice dogs and cats that need a home and someone to love them and take care of them so their lives will be saved.

Thank you for announcing our activities to the public.

Gloria Hopkins, president Sikeston Area Humane Society
