14-year-olds win first game in regionals

SIKESTON - The Sikeston 14-year-old Junior Babe Ruth All-Star team won its first game on Wednesday in the Babe Ruth Midwest Regional Tournament in Chadron, Neb. by defeating the Kansas All-Stars 7-2.

Sikeston, which is representing the state of Missouri after winning the state title in Boonville, is competing against teams from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.

The winner of the regional will advance to the World Series in Wilson City, N.C.

Timmy Bell was the winning pitcher on Wednesday, throwing all five innings and allowing just two hits.

Sikeston defeated Jackson in the state championship game 14-0 behind a five-inning shutout by Scott Droddy.

Sikeston will continue action in the regional tournament today.
