Carl Thurmond

CHARLESTON - Carl Michael Thurmond, 55, died May 10, 2004, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Dec. 22, 1948, in Dorena, to the late Robert and Naomi Coleman Thurmond, he was a retired bus driver for the Charleston R-1 School District, where he worked for 32 years.

He was first married to Minnie Simpson, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 1, 2001, he married Billie Jo Sager, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Daniel Hart of Atlanta; one stepson, Saul Sager of Charleston; three stepdaughters, Alquenetta Henderson Jones of Sikeston and Africa Sager and Jassez Sager of Charleston; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston. Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the St. Matthew Baptist Church in Charleston with the Rev. Luther Lawrence officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
