Harvey M. Smothers

BLOOMFIELD - Harvey M. Smothers, 96, died April 22, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 21, 1907, near Swinton, son of the late Orble and Minnie Mann Smothers, he was employed by International Shoe Company from 1927 to 1942. He moved to Benton in 1939 and then to rural Bloomfield in 1943 where he pursued his life-long love of farming. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Bell City and later attended the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

On June 18, 1927, he married Zenoba Hobbs who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jim Smothers of Montgomery, Texas, and Gary Smothers of Bloomfield; two brothers, Elvis Smothers and John Smothers of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Helen Steward of Bloomfield; and two granddaughters and five great granddaughters.

Preceding him in death were four sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield with Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating.

Burial will follow in the George Cemetery near Bloomfield.
