Bessie Buttry

CHARLESTON - Bessie Buttry, 81, died at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22, 2003, at her residence in Charleston.

Born Sept. 15, 1921, at Conway, Ark., to the late Charles Edward and Lola Bell Wyatt, she had lived in Charleston most of her life and was a member of the First General Baptist Church.

On Sept. 7, 1940, she married Willie Lee Buttry, who preceded her in death on July 24, 2001.Surviving are: six sons, Charles Buttry and Tommy Buttry of Sikeston, Ray Buttry of Morehouse, Leroy Buttry of Pontiac, Mich., and Billy Buttry and Larry Buttry of Charleston; three daughters, Bonnie Neal of Charleston, Gladys Cast of Alto Pass., Ill., and Rosie Cornwell of Paducah, Ky.; three sisters, Agnes Pike of Las Vegas, Lorene Honeywell of Jackson and Loretha Bennett of Pontiac, Mich.; and 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Two grandsons, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the First General Baptist Church on West Ashby Street in Charleston where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Bill Meeks, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Cast, J.J. Buttry, Lance Buttry, Eric Burvens, David Buttry and Jerry Neal.

Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Buttry, David Cook and Mickey Buttry.
