ORAN -- Charleston's girls basketball team opened the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament on Monday night with a 44-32 win over Scott City.

Missy Whitney was in dominant form, scoring a game-high 31 points.

"She's a great player," said Charleston head coach Brent Anderson. "She's a threat to score from every spot on the floor. She's kind of taking a good leadership role for us and I hope it continues."

Charleston played the game without two of its starters, but was able to outscore the Lady Rams in every period. Behind Whitney, Fleeter Quinn had nine points while Charnette Williams and Gina Johnson each contributed two.

For Scott City, Kristen Schaeffer led the way with 13. Charleston (3-6) will face Delta in the second round of the tournament on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. assuming Delta gets past East Prairie on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

In other tournament games on Wednesday, Kelly plays Chaffee at 6:30 p.m., followed by Scott Central versus Oran at 8 p.m.
