MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Thomas Eugene "Tom" Dalton, 84, died Aug. 28, 2003, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

Born Dec. 10, 1919, in New Madrid County, Mo., son of the late Walter and Margaret Simpson Dalton, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Texas and USS Missouri in World War II. Before retiring, he had been employed by Kimberly Clark and was also a security guard at St. Francis Hospital.

In 1949, he married Marie Purser who preceded him in death on June 27, 2002.

Survivors include: two sons, Thomas Eugene Dalton of Lakeland, Tenn., and John Walter Dalton of New Haven, Conn.; one daughter, Barbara Dianne Huddleston of Sardice, Miss.; one sister, Georgia Estes of Lilbourn, Mo.; one brother, Bill Dalton of Polanka, Fla.; three granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Lisa Marie and Chris Brown of Hernando, Miss., and Jessica Dalton and Jennifer Dalton of Memphis; and one great-grandson, Chase Dalton Brown of Hernando.

One brother, Alvin "A.B." Dalton, preceded him in death in 1995.

Visitation is from noon Sunday until service time at 2 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn. The Rev. Bob Medlock of Sikeston, Mo., will officiate.

The American Legion Post 545 Honor Guard of New Madrid, Mo., will conduct full military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Lee Wescoat, Russ Wescoat, Christopher Wescoat, Jeffrey Hunter, Joseph Hunter and Griff Estes.
