Speakout 2/18

Wednesday, February 18, 2004

I heard on the news where a person can be sued if he shovels snow and ice off the sidewalk in front of his house. I thought this was a public sidewalk and would be the city's responsibility. How can a person be sued for someone slipping and falling on a sidewalk that is owned by the city? If it is the person's responsibility who lives there, why couldn't he mark off that strip of sidewalk so nobody could actually walk on it?

What is all this political poison the Democrats are trying to destroy President Bush with, claiming he misled the American People and Congress about WMDs that never existed? President Bush and Republicans in Congress aren't the only ones who believed the undisputable evidence regarding Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the need to get Saddam Hussein out. Democrats were not duped into voting yes on the vote to give President Bush authority to take action he deemed necessary to deal with Saddam Hussein. Democrats were among those making conclusive statements, just prior to President Bush taking action, that WMDs did in fact exist in Iraq. Take a look at a sampling: "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif., Dec. 16, 1998) "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." - Al Gore (D-Sept. 23, 2002) "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass., Sept. 27, 2002) "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaida members." - (Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y. Oct. 10, 2002) "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass., Jan. 23. 2003

After pressure from the Democrats and also his own party, the President now wants to get to the bottom of the intelligence concerning his acts about the war on terror and especially in Iraq. The weird thing is that he is making sure it will come after the election. Apparently, he doesn't want it to come out before, for some reason.

I saw on CNN News where President Bush, over the next three years, is taking $13 billion from the veterans' benefits. We have military personnel over there in Iraq, giving their lives for this country, and the President is taking away their benefits. It will be election time in November and we better not forget this. Also, Gov. Bob Holden, look at the benefits he has taken away from nursing home patients and schools and stuff. We need to get these people out of office. When you start taking benefits from nursing home patients, schools that need them and our vets, that's gone too far, especially when our service men and women are over there fighting for our country and giving their lives.
