WARDELL - The Portageville Bulldogs improved to 7-3 on the season with a 61-24 road win against North Pemiscot on Thursday.

North Pemiscot had the score tied at 10-10 in the first quarter but was out-scored 51-14 from there.

"I was really impressed with the way we came out," said Portageville head coach Jim Bidewell. "We've been concerned about coming out sluggish or not being able to finish. Tonight we played four quarters and that helped us."

Portageville saw 10 different players reach the scoring column. Willie Hassell led the way with 15 points. Antonio Scott and Ramone Kershaw each had 10 points.

Lee Wilson led North Pemiscot (8-2) with seven points.

"Last year they came into our place and about beat us," said Bidewell. "So we knew they had several of their kids back and we knew we were going to be in for a battle. Our kids really responded well. It's kind of a semi-rivalry with us being so close and the kids got up for it."

Portageville plays at Scott County Central tonight at 6 p.m.

ORAN -- Saxony Lutheran kept its undefeated season alive on Thursday, beating Oran on the road, 58-50.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 15-6 lead, then outscored Oran 11-9 in the second and 19-10 in the third.

The Eagles made a comeback in the fourth quarter, but fell eight points short.

Tim Lorenz led the charge for Saxony, finishing with 21 points. Casey Pezoldt scored 15 and Trey Maevers had 12.

For Oran, Garrett Roslen scored 14 and Trevor Irwin had 12.
