Speakout 10/31

Friday, October 31, 2003

People in Sikeston, this is your opportunity. The Standard Democrat has given you a free Wednesday paper with a survey of what you want Sikeston to do. If you don't fill out this survey, it's your own fault. You can mail it up there, you can take it up there. But fill it out. Stop sitting back on your butts and doing nothing but complaining. Fill out this survey. Let Sikeston see where we need help. And another thing, I'm sick of looking in Sikeston's paper and seeing these single girls having babies over and over with these long names that we can't even pronounce and the poor child won't even be able to pronounce. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of Sikeston's economic development program. I'm tired of the way we put people in Section 8 housing and let them live forever and ever on this stuff. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of coming home from lunch and seeing groups of young people standing around on the corners. Going to work I see groups of young people sitting out on porches, coming home from work and the young people are so thick you can't even drive down the streets in Sikeston. If you don't fill out that survey, it's your own fault.

I thought this was America. When the tragedy happened on 9/11, we were all Americans. Some kids in my neighborhood have been beaten, raped and abducted and buried alive and this has not been reported in the news, on TV or in the newspaper. What has happened to America?

You did not say where this occurred. We contact area law enforcement agencies daily, Monday through Saturday. They provide criminal activity to us for publication. You may want to check with the agency that investigated the situation and ask them why it has not been reported to the Standard Democrat or other news media.

To whoever had the guts to steal a teen-age girl's purse at a school function must be really lame. They did not know that if they took someone's medication it could mess them up really bad.

I need some sheet rock replaced on my ceiling. If anyone out there does this kind of work, please call me at 472-2458 and leave a message.

I have lost a class ring. Call 667-5609 if you have found it. A reward is offered for its return.

The lady who fell on the sidewalk in front of Dr. Weathers' office on Tanner Street would like to say a great big thank you to all who stopped to help. God bless you. Sikeston, look up. We have great people.
