SIKESTON - Billy Sikes, Ruth Hollingsworth and Mary Waldman are among those from Sikeston who will attend summer term of school at the Teachers College in Cape Girardeau.

SIKESTON - If you were one of many who complained yesterday, you had good reason, because it was the hottest day in Sikeston this year, so far. The city saw a record high of 100 degrees.

GIDEON - Voters turned out in large numbers for the Tuesday bond election. They approved two propositions for a total of $225,000 in revenue and obligation bonds.

SIKESTON - Downtown merchants presented a petition to City Manager Robert Knabel on Thursday. They oppose the planned demolition of the Applegate-Smith Building at 118 N. Kingshighway. The merchants stated the building was a historic site and should be preserved.

SIKESTON - Joe Heckemeyer will attend the 47th National Conference of the National Association of Student Councils.

SIKESTON - Local attorney Pete Burns was honored by the city park officials by having his named placed on the Honors Board during a ceremony Thursday. Friends and family gathered with Burns at the Sports Complex for the unveiling of his plaque.

KELSO - Fred Bollinger knows more about arrowheads than the average person because he is both a collector and a "flintknapper." More than 20 years ago, he acquired the nickname, "Arrowhead Fred." He does demonstrations of flintknapping - the craft of making arrowheads - and gives lectures about arrowheads to scout groups and schools around the area.
