SpeakOut 6/13

Call 471-6636

I have something to say to a certain individual. It's not every nice when you come to my house to visit me and then steal from me.

Our government has been trying to balance the budget for years, and I have a good idea. If they would put the government employees (federal, state and county) on minimum wage for five years, I guarantee you, our budget would be balanced. But I don't think they'll do that. Our government has been trying to get the budget balanced for years and have made no progress at all.

This is about the person who said East Prairie does not need a gambling casino but they need this and they need that. That's fine. Let all the other counties and states have all the revenue and get better schools and hospitals. In East Prairie, somebody doesn't want it, but to the person who called in, just because they build a casino doesn't mean you have to go there. You just have to stay away if you don't like it and leave it for we who do like casinos and would like to see it.

To all you people griping about the casino that wants to come in, why don't you just shut up? If you don't want to go, don't go; if you don't want to smoke, don't smoke. But don't fuss at anybody else who likes to. Those places hire a lot of people and there's a lot of revenue that comes out of those places. I think they need jobs more than fussing about casinos. Yes, I like to go to casinos. I give them some money and I have some fun. But if you don't like it, just stay away. Just shut up!

Someone placed an ad in the Standard Democrat classified section, looking for a Maltese for an elderly woman. Please put your ad back in the paper.

We contacted the person who submitted the ad and learned that she has already acquired a pet.

Does Pat Sajak really understand those squeaky-voice contestants, or does he pretend?

A big thank you to Wal-Mart for bringing back their senior bingo on the last Wednesday of every month. We really enjoy the chance to socialize and appreciate the great doughnuts and coffee. I especially look forward to my shopping that week because I plan it on Wednesday so I can meet my friends.

I say "Amen" to the person whose SpeakOut on June 3 was about making adults wear seat belts. I wear mine, but like the article said, what has happened to our word "freedom?" We do need to buckle up our children, but as adults, we should not be made to wear a seat belt because we are not involving anyone but ourselves, and nobody else. Look at all the accidents that happen while people are driving while talking on their cell phones. Wrecks caused by these involve all the passengers in their car and other vehicles on the highway. Ban the use of cellular phones while driving on the highway.
