Your View 11/15: Your help needed

Friday, November 15, 2002

Sometimes in life, circumstances may arise that simply turn your life upside down. We all can relate to those times. I am writing to inform our community about such a case.

Becky Dukes is a young, single mother. She has recently been diagnosed with bone cancer. Due to her illness she is no longer able to work. We all know when difficulties like this arise, it doesn't take long until you find yourself in a financial bind. In order to help Becky, we will be sponsoring a fish fry. All the benefits from this project will go directly to Becky to help her during this time.

We have graciously received many donations and I would like to thank all of you who have already purchased fish tickets or made contributions to this fund.

If you wish to help in these efforts, you may purchase tickets in advance by contacting Shelly Kinder at 471-6206 or Joan Wood at 471-0076. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. The fish fry will be held at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 128 Fifth St. in Sikeston on Nov. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 3-10 and children ages 2 and under are free of charge. Carryouts are also available.

If you wish to help in some way but will be unable to attend the benefit dinner, donations may be made to the Friends of Becky Dukes Fund, U.S. Bank. Please help us in these efforts by giving from your heart. Who knows? It could be one of us next time.
