Hardee's robbery suspect charged
SIKESTON -- A Caruthersville man has been charged with the robbery of Hardee's Wednesday night.
Mancellous T. Hurt, 26, is charged with first degree robbery and is currently being held at DPS headquarters under $100,000 bond.
According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden, the robbery at Hardee's was reported around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The clerk reported that a black man wearing a yellow bandana partially covering his face and carrying a gun in his waistband entered the store and demanded the money from the registers and the safe. Another employee that was working in the back of the store came up and was confronted by the robber.
The robber then forced the employee to the rear of the store and told him to remain there. Neither employee indicated that the gun was ever displayed other than observed in the waistband of the suspect's pants.
Information from the employees was that the suspect fled in a black car southbound on Main Street. The suspect also cut the phone wire to the store and the call was made by a customer who was coming through the drive-thru portion of the store.
Officers at Hardee's were quickly able to assess that the suspect fled on foot in a northerly direction. A short time later a suspicious incident was reported at Hardin and Warner by a concerned citizen. A portion of the money from the robbery was found near a residence and the track was picked up by the police K-9 unit.
During the investigation, officers found Hurt acting suspiciously in the area not far from where the K-9 unit had lost the suspect's track. A photo was obtained of Hurt and later identified by both employees as the suspect. Hurt was subsequently arrested at the home of one of the employees who had been present at the store during the robbery.
The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected pending review by the prosecutor.
