Pauline Schmitt

CHAFFEE - Pauline Catherine Schmitt, 92, died at 4:45 p.m. June 3, 2002, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 14, 1909, in St. Louis, daughter of the late Theodore and Helen Shoemaucher Leissing, she had worked in the housekeeping department of St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau and was a news dealer for the Southeast Missourian. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, St. Joseph CCW and VFW Post 6407 Ladies Auxiliary.

On July 4, 1931, in St. Louis, she married John Schmitt who preceded her in death on July 4, 1976.

Survivors include: one son, Donald P. Schmitt of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Delores Mantos of Scott City, Alis Schmitt of Anchorage, Alaska, and Helen Drew of Carlingville, Ill.; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Mary Marshall and two brothers and one sister.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where parish prayers will be read at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. James Seyer officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at Scott City.
