SIKESTON - Miss Mary Jane Sikes arrived Monday morning from New York City to spend the holiday vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sikes and other relatives. She is a student at the Julliard School of Music.

SIKESTON - Each year physicians and surgeons comprising the medical staff at the Missouri Delta Community Hospital meet and organize for the following year by electing officers. Recently enlisted officers are: Dr. Max A. Heeb, chairman; Dr. A.D. Martin, vice chairman, Dr. Leo Bruce, treasurer; and Dr. Joseph Blanton, secretary.

SIKESTON - Christmas Around the World was the theme of the annual Christmas program presented Friday at Southwest Elementary School. The program featured a live nativity setting and a mural which was turned as the different countries, songs and scenes were spoken about.

NEW MADRID - If the New Madrid Fire Department has their way, before their alarm sounds a fire, the homeowner will be alerted by a smoke alarm. Beginning today, smoke detectors will be placed in local residences by members of the fire department. The smoke detectors are free and the 18 members of the fire department are donating their time to ensure they are properly installed and working.


NEW MADRID - A coroner's jury ruled a fire which killed a 30-year-old New Madrid woman was intentionally set. After listening to 20 witnesses, in a hearing which ran from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, the jury determined the blaze which resulted in the death of Josie Guest was a felony set fire. The jury did not rule on who set the fire.
