Speakout 12/19

Sunday, December 19, 2004

This is for the two little boys who come along after school on Dec. 9 and tore the Christmas lights off the little post out here in the yard in the 900 block of Stanford Street. I know one of your names and you are going to be reported. Don't you know it's against the law to destroy property? Those people spent a long time out there working on those decorations and there was no sense in both of you doing what you did to them. You better come down here and tell those people. If you don't, I'm going to call the police on you.

I am a white senior citizen and I just came from the store. A black man was in line in front of me and told me to go ahead of him to check out my purchases, so I did. As I was getting my money out, he told the cashier to "put hers on this." I said, "No, I'll pay it" and he said, "No." I just want people to know that there are some great, good people in Sikeston. The man wouldn't tell me his name. I didn't see any wings, but I know what he was.

The Sikeston area around the Wal-Mart Supercenter is really growing. I think Sikeston is ready for another big Malco twin theater. The City Council may not agree with me but I think it would pay off. The way that area is growing with businesses and houses, I think it would be a good thing to do. Also, put in a Burlington Coat Factory in Sikeston. I don't care if it's in the mall by Jay's Fried Chicken or where, but if you put one in here, it will also pay off. Their clothes are so nice and so economical and reasonably priced. They have a factory in Northern Illinois someplace, but I would like to see Sikeston get one. A man who is dressed in a Burlington coat looks like a Philadelphia lawyer.

I called in Thursday that they were throwing the papers in my flowers. I asked that they throw it in my drive. Friday, I didn't even get a paper. I guess I'm being punished. I can cancel my subscription. Would you see to this?

We are sorry you feel you're being punished, of course this is not the case. We have had a substitute carrier on your route for a few days. Your regular carrier is now back. Remember, carriers are human, too.

Let's see if you have the guts to put this in your SpeakOut column. I would like to SpeakOut on how lousy your sports department is. Your coverage is very crummy. You are late with scores (if they are ever even put in the paper). For instance, you never even put state-ranked Portageville Bulldogs basketball victory over Twin Rivers in the paper at all. You finally put the Portageville win over Hayti in Tuesday's edition and the game was Friday night. You people need to hire someone for your sports program or I will cancel my paper with you. Get it together!

If someone in law enforcement would tell me to turn these phone numbers I have where people are calling me by mistake and asking me for drugs, I would turn them over to you. I can get no sleep and I'm sick and tired of them calling my number.

Call DPS at 471-4711 or 471-6200. All information will be kept confidential.

I read Mr. Jensen's article on Dec. 12 and I agree when you take away from the very poor in the United States and give to Iraq so or gasoline will be cheaper, you're just like all the other Republicans, including Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He should be fired for what he said to our troops and the couldn't-care-less attitude he displayed about the Iraqi war. He said we would go to war with the Army we have, not the Army you might want or wish to have. That was a slap in the face to our troops. If I had a boy or girl who was called to Iraq, I would leave the country and go somewhere else. I'd dodge the war in Iraq just like Mr. Bush.
