Loren Coffey

DEXTER - Loren Coffey, 88, died June 14, 2004, in Dexter.

Born Nov. 23, 1915, near Essex, son of the late Lawrence and Nora Warren Coffey, he was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter where he was a former Sunday school teacher. A former owner of Dexter Coal and Ice Company and Coffey Construction Company, he was co-owner of the Coffey and Camp Lumber Company in Dexter. A 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 532 in Dexter, he was a member of Dexter Public Schools Board of Education for 33 years, served on the Oakland City College Board and was a member of the Dexter Kiwanis Club.

In October 1933, at Essex, he married Opal LaRue who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Hodder of Dexter; one sister, Hazel Gisi of Essex; two granddaughters, Pamela Trammell and Diane Hall of Dexter; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Coffey and Orville Coffey; one sister, Loraine Fraser; one granddaughter, Terri Sue Hodder; and one great-grandson.

A Masonic service will be conducted at 5 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where visitation will continue until 8 p.m.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Phil Warren officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
