MARION -- After two tough wins last Saturday Fas Gas/Lambert's, a local traveling soccer team, was set to win its division in the Marion Whirlwind Classic. Those two wins came against Cape All-Stars and Union County.

Sunday started off with a win against Mt. Vernon. Laura Atchison got things rolling with a header over the goalie's outstretched hands. Jordan Rodgers, Megan Underhill, Kaitlyn Turnbow and Brittany Jenkins added four more goals to finish out the match.

The match of the day was semifinal game against Jackson White. With the score tied at 1-1 after regulation and two bonus periods, it came down to a shootout. After that, both sides were still tied so it came to the eleventh players on the field and Jackson was able to pull out the win.

"Until that last goal, not one of the girls seemed to fold under the pressure," said Sikeston coach Buzz Ferrell. "The girls held to the fact that they were not going give up under any circumstances. The record books may show that we lost, but I believe in my heart that the girls walked away winners because they faced the challenge, gave 110 percent, and left absolutely nothing to chance."

Sikeston then lost to Perryville in the third place game to finish fourth in the tournament.

Soon, the same teams will play in the CAYSA Tournament in cape Girardeau.
