SIKESTON - Paul Kemp, manager of the War Man Power Commission office here, has been transferred to the Lebanon, Mo., office. Taking the office left vacant by Kemp's departure is Houck Mitchell, who was recently released from the Army.

NEW MADRID - According to Jessie H. Wilkins, county clerk, the valuation of New Madrid County, for taxation purposes will surpass $50 million.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Public Library has announced Read More 1984, a statewide summer program for children. The event is scheduled to begin Tuesday and continue through July 24 every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

LILBOURN - Janise Kerperien, the 10-year-old daughter of Steve and Judy Kerperien of Campbell, was chosen Pre-teen Bootheel Princess. The royalty are: Danielle, 12, daughter of Roger and Carol Crafton of Portageville, first runner-up; Heather, 10, daughter of Gina Tope of Sikeston and Tracy Tope of Lilbourn, second runner-up; Tabitha, 10, daughter of Ronnie and Penny Miller of Malden, third runner-up; and Katie, 10, daughter of Keith Byrd of Sikeston and Kim Lewis of New Madrid, fourth-runner-up.

SIKESTON - McKinnie's Bestway, located on the corner of North Kingshighway and Salcedo Road, recently conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony. Formerly Bloemer's Grocery, it is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Many people attended the ceremony, some of whom include: Keith Howren, Jerry Vanden Book, Melinda Nelson, Lynn McKinnie, Terry McKinnie, Brooke McKinnie, Karen McKinnie, Anita McKinnie, Ray Bloemer, Dorothy Bloemer, Shirrell True, Jerry Shaw, Gary Drake and Terry Jackson.
