SIKESTON - A letter to the editor read as follows: Dear Mr. Blanton: I thank you very much for letting me be one of the groups that visited your printing press. I thank you a lot for the ice cream and for the information you gave us. Thanks again for the ice cream. Albert Keith Bess.

BELL CITY - Homer C. Kinder, superintendent of schools for Bell City School District R-2, announced today that the Bell City schools cotton vacation ends this week and the pupils must be back in school next Monday.
SIKESTON - Somebody with an odd sense of humor broke into the Standard building Friday night by breaking a glass in the back door. A Pepsi Cola machine was broken open and it is believed between $10 and $12 stolen. The intruder also ransacked the desk of Charles L. Blanton Jr., editor-publisher, but nothing was taken.

PORTAGEVILLE - The Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation will close all satellite offices in its six-county service area effective Friday. According to Glenn W. Milligan, the decision to close the offices will reduce the agency's administrative overhead.

MORLEY - Green Wing Shoot winners in the 12-14 age group were Clay Eubanks, first, of Sikeston; Shane Garner, second, of Advance; and Mark Ziegler, third, of Benton. The event was held last weekend at the SEMO Sports Shoot in Morley.
SIKESTON - The scene is set for a debate as local businessmen continue to show displeasure over a proposed amendment to the city's sign ordinance concerning off-premise signs. The amendment was again a point of discussion at the city council meeting Wednesday morning.
