Lilbourn teen killed in accident

BENTON -- A New Madrid County teenager was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Scott County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, around 8 a.m. northbound motorist Kasi R. Clark, 17, of New Madrid was traveling on Interstate 55 and Highway 80, two miles south of Benton, when she lost control of her vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. Her vehicle overturned in the median and vaulted into the air and into the path of the southbound tractor-trailer driven by Cory L. Bufford of Enville, Tenn.

Clark's passenger, 16-year-old Melissa C. "Missy" Robinson of Lilbourn was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:12 a.m. by Scott County Coroner Scott Amick.

Clark was seriously injured and air evacuated to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Bufford's passenger, Katherine J. Bufford, 26, of Enville received moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center.

Robinson was taken to Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Friday. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid.
