SIKESTON - Two employees at Missouri Delta Medical Center were honored in May at the Employee Awards Banquet.

Brooke Reed, occupational therapist for In-patient Rehab and ReStart was named "Employee of the Year." Maggie Buckley, MSW, director of social services, was selected "Manager of the Year."

Reed moved to Sikeston in February 2002 after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Prior to her move she received a speciality in neurodevelopmental technique from the Rehab Institute of Chicago. NDT enhances stroke and other types of neuro-related rehabilitation.

"To be recognized after only being here a little over two years was a great honor for me," said Reed. "I love working for Missouri Delta Medical Center because of the opportunity to work in the full spectrum of occupational therapy. I work with patients on our In-patient Rehab floor, outpatients at ReStart and also home health patients. MDMC has given me the opportunity to work in many areas of my expertise and I am truly thankful for it."

Reed was praised for her work ethic. "Brooke gives 110 percent to each and every patient she comes in contact with. Not only do her patients benefit but she takes the time to help her co-therapists with their patients as well," said Amy Gordin, director of rehabilitation services. "Brooke always comes to work with a positive attitude and she motivates other employees to do their best and that is why I feel she deserves this award."

Maggie Buckley

As "Manager of the Year," Buckley was praised for her efforts also. "Maggie is a great example. Her passion for her work has been an inspiration to me. She goes beyond her duties to be helpful," said Abby Seyer, former MDMC social work intern and current part-time social worker for Senior Lifestyles.

Officials explained social workers at MDMC work from the premise that when a person is admitted to the hospital, they do not leave their problems at home. Social workers are trained to assist patients and their families.

"I love my job because social workers assist so many people every day. Being named 'Manager of the Year' brings further recognition to the role of social workers in our hospital and society," said Buckley.

She began her social work career with Bootheel Counseling Services and Community Counseling Center. Also she worked for the Division of Senior Services for five years. In August 2002, Buckley joined the team at MDMC.

Buckley married Mike Buckley on Oct. 11, 2003, and has an 11-year-old son, Zach.
