Wood leads Oran to win

ORAN -- Ryne Wood hit four 3-pointers and scored 27 points overall as Oran defeated St. Vincent, 63-58.

The Eagles took an 11-point lead into the final quarter, only to see Adam Bockman and Matt Wengert rally the Indians. Their efforts fell five points short though, as Oran improved to 6-1 on the year.

Nathan Seyer added 16 for Oran, which broke into the state poll this week at No. 6 in Class 1A.

The Eagles took care of business from the free throw line, making 18-of-24 attempts.

Bockman had 14 and Wengert had 11 for the Indians. Foul problems plagued both teams as each had two players foul out.

Oran is seeded fourth in the upcoming University High School Christmas Tournament slated to begin Dec. 26.

CHAFFEE - Bloomfield, the No. 16 seed in their own Christmas Tournament, has now defeated two teams from the U-High.

After beating Kelly, an 11th seed in the U-High, the Wildcats beat No. 16 Chaffee on the road on Tuesday 65-62.

Chaffee led 26-20 at the half, but the Wildcats rallied in the second half to pull out the victory.

Chaffee (1-4) was led in scoring by Chase Eskew's 20 points. Andrew Horrell had 15 and James Reischman had 13 for the Red Devils.

Bloomfield (2-6) was led by Dustin Massey with 14 and Adam Kingree with 13.

Both teams were outstanding from the free throw line. Bloomfield made 25-of-31 while the Red Devils were 23-of-27.

Scott Central improved their record to 6-1 on a two point victory over Scott City's Rams Tuesday, 49-47.

The Braves, who were down 30-24 at the half, came back in the second half and shut down Scott City's offense. Scott City was only able to score five points against Scott Central's defense in the third period.

Terrance Williams led the Braves in scoring with 15 points, which included one trey.

The trio of D.J. Walton, Chad Weatherspoon, and Andy Beck all dumped in eight points apiece to lead the Rams.

Scott Central's next affair will be next Wednesday in the U-High Tournament. The Braves will take on Neadow Heights at 9 p.m.

Scott City will also participate in the U-High Tournament on Wednesday by playing Bell City's Cubs at 4:30 p.m.

Varsity girls

Kelly 74, Ellington 35

BROSELEY - The Kelly girls basketball team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 74-35 whitewashing of Ellington in the Twin Rivers Lady Royals Tournament.

Kelly led 18-4 after one quarter and were never challenged. They led 34-13 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half.

Bridgett Riley led the Lady Hawks with 16 while Cara Scherer had 15. Kelly Jones led Ellington with 10.

Kelly will play Thursday against the winner of the Clearwater-Scott City game.
