Robert Abernathy

CANALOU - Robert Lavern Abernathy, 77, died at 1:50 p.m. Nov. 3, 2001, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston.

Born Oct. 4, 1924, at Searles, Tenn., son of the late Oscar Laverlie and Georgia Caroline Baker Abernathy, he was a farmer.

On Dec. 11, 1945, in New Madrid, he married Frances Elizabeth Bishop who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Claudia Abernathy of Canalou; one daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Ronald Bright of Florissant; two brothers, Marcus Abernathy of Benton and Lee Abernathy of Paris, Ill.; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Friends may all from 5-8 p.m. today at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Melton Morton of East Prairie officiating.

Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Bright, Jimmy Fowler, Bill Baldwin, Wayne Rollins, John Abernathy and Lee Abernathy.
