Patriotism Noted

As we look back at the year 2001, we are reminded of the pain and suffering our neighbors have endured and continue to do so. We hold a heart-felt desire to do something - anything. As many Americans shrugged their shoulders, not knowing how to help, many others rolled up their sleeves, giving their own blood to save the lives of others.

We saw that patriotic demonstration at the First United Methodist Church on Dec. 26, just one day after Christmas.

With snow flurries and the stress of the holidays still heavy, many of you gave the greatest gift that anyone has ever given - life! On behalf of the American Red Cross and the many lives you saved we express thankfulness deep within our hearts. You see, there is no other way to replace the very lifeline giving us every breath, but through your sacrifice.

We would like to thank those who facilitated the success of the blood drive: Rotary for sponsoring our drive and their constant support in all endeavors, Dominos Pizza and Houchin's Donuts provided refreshments, KSIM for their complete coverage and the Standard Democrat for always keeping us informed.

Thank you for giving the gift of life, because as we saw so tragically on Sept. 11, help can't wait! Freida Cardwell,

American Red Cross
