Poplar Bluff man arrested

MINER - A Poplar Bluff man was arrested on drug charges following a vehicle stop by Miner police early Sunday morning.

According to Miner Police Chief Roger Moore, the vehicle was stopped by Capt. A. Moody and patrolman D. McDermott of the Miner Police Department on Highway 62 in Miner at about 1:56 a.m.

The driver, Joseph Burkhart, 22, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Poplar Bluff.

The narcotics investigation which followed resulted in the seizure of approximately 13 pounds of freshly-cut marijuana located in the vehicle's trunk.

Scott County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd filed formal charges Sunday for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Burkhart is currently being held at the Miner City Jail on a $25,000 bond.
