Looking Back in Time at Sept. 17

SIKESTON - Dannie Limbaugh, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Limbaugh, sustained a fracture of the left arm when he fell while jumping off a fence near his home Thursday afternoon.

SIKESTON - The Lions Club has selected Miss Cheri Lea Pasaka, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Pasaka as its candidate for the title of Cotton Carnival Queen and she will be among those judged Saturday noon, Sept. 29. Cheri is a junior at Sikeston High School, an accomplished twirler with the senior band, member of the National Honor Society, the National Forensic League and the Red Peppers.

JEFFERSON CITY - Charleston, East Prairie and Portageville are the only three communities in Southeast Missouri who have been approved for community development block grants. The Missouri Department of Consumer Affairs has announced the award of $8.5 million in community development block grants to 16 Missouri communities.

SIKESTON - Department of Public Safety Director Jim Leist says that with a few dedicated individuals, the program will work. The director and the city council wish to rejuvenate the city's public safety reserve unit - a volunteer group which devotes its time to assisting the police division during hectic times.


NEW MADRID - The Canalou Alumni's 28th Annual Banquet was conducted Sept. 5 in New Madrid. There were 66 persons in attendance, including 39 graduates, four teachers, a school director along with 22 classmates, friends and spouses. The classes of 1949, 1952, 1953 and 1958 were represented by four members.
