This is in response to the March 24 Your View. This is addressed to Harold Sloas of New Madrid who supposes legalizing meth, crack, whatever else, probably angel dust and LSD or whatever, to take the profit out of it. If you promote all of us law-abiding citizens to be able to carry a loaded handgun to protect ourselves from the meth-heads maybe we could consider it. I also suggest that you try it before you buy it in your hometown of New Madrid for about a year and then come back and see how it works.

Several weeks ago on the front page of the Standard Democrat was an article which stated the City Council made an agreement with Charter Communications. It also said no one was there and made any objections. When will the next City Council meeting be held, as I would like to be there to discuss a problem I have with Charter. I hope someone from Charter will be there, also.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Sikeston City Council will be at 5 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the council room at City Hall.

What happened to the large American flag that used to fly over the Complex? I always felt so comforted when I would see that flag flying. It hasn't been up there for several days now.

The flag was removed because of wear it received and is now one of four in shreds, waiting to be retired. Missy Marshall, executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the project, said a new flag is on order should arrive any day now. "With the current war situation, we would like to show our support by flying the flag," said Marshall. "We appreciate the contributions of area organizations have made to help us keep the flag flying."

Every motel, fast-food restaurant you see in Tennessee or here in Missouri is owned by some foreigner. How come these people get all these benefits and the taxpaying American citizens don't, and we have to pay to keep these people up? I say it's time we get back to America and get rid of these foreigners and get America back to the way it was. I'm tired of keeping up a bunch of Iraqi's around here when they don't care about our country. I'd vote to ship them all back to Iraq where they belong. And good riddance.
