Speakout 8/31

Sunday, August 31, 2003

I would like to commend the Sikeston Police Department. My child did not get off his bus where he was supposed to be and within minutes, the police were there and were on alert looking for my child. I would like to thank them for their service and for the wonderful job they do in our community.

This is to the person looking for dental care. I am a Sikeston Elk and we will be having our mobile dental clinic in town from Aug. 25-Sept. 4. I think you can make an appointment by going through the Division of Family Services. Hope this helps.

We ran a story on Aug. 4 abut the clinic. The Elks Mobile Dental Unit is in Sikeston until Sept. 4 at the Sikeston Regional Center, 112 Plaza Drive. Services are provided for handicapped and crippled children, mentally retarded and developmentally disabled children and adults throughout the state. In addition to mentally retarded individuals, including educable mentally retarded clients and developmentally disabled and crippled children ages 3-21, residents of Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi and Stoddard counties who are referred by the Bureau of Special Health Care Needs or a Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled are also eligible. This does not include clients with learning disabilities only. Individuals in extreme financial distress who have found it impossible to receive dental care anywhere else may be eligible as time permits after the two priority groups are taken care of, but must be referred by the Elks Lodge screening committee. For more information, call Barbara Cushman, program manager, at (573) 690-6603.

To the person who has a problem with the price of watermelons, the radio has nothing to do with the price. Growing watermelons costs a lot of money and takes a lot of hard work if it's done right. If you have to pay more than $1 for a watermelon, it's for those reasons only. You don't have to pay at all for a watermelon. It's your choice. Go to the store and pay for one you can't even exchange if there's a problem. Get yourself something to do. You obviously have too much time on your hands, worried about everybody else's business.

I was watching the news and weather on TV. They were discussing Southeast Missouri. Where do they draw the line for Southeast Missouri? St. Louis is certainly not in it. See if you can find out where the Southeast Missouri line is and where Northern Missouri starts.
