Another two miles of 4-lane to open on 60

WILLOW SPRINGS - The Missouri Department of Transportation will open the new west bound lane of traffic providing additional 2.1 miles of four-lane highway on Route 60 just east of Van Buren. This traffic change is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 30, weather permitting. Motorists should allow for a 10-minute possible delay during the actual opening to the four-lane divided highway.

MoDOT urges motorists to proceed slowly through the work zone. Motorists should pay special attention to all work zone signs, which will guide them through the operation safely.

The project is located from 3.9 miles west of Route 21 North junction to 1.7 miles west of Route 21 North. The project is 2.1 miles in length. The construction consisted of paving a four-lane highway along with two 38-foot wide bridges over Carter Creek. The paving contract was awarded to Bross Construction Company, Chester/C.B. Equipment, Inc. of Hannibal at an approximate cost of $4,070,293. The bridges were constructed under a previous contract by H.R. Quadri Construction Company.

Upon completion, this project will improve safety and provide for additional capacity along Route 60 in Carter County by eliminating the existing narrow bridge across Carter Creek and improving the highway alignment. With this addition, MoDOT has opened 13.6 miles of four-lane highway on Route 60 in Carter County since August 2001.
