Call 471-6636

To the little girl on Smith Street who gave me a bottle of water on July 15, when I was walking home, honey, thank you so much. You were truly sent. I thank God for you.

We are not Scott County. We are not New Madrid County. We are not St. Charles County. We are not Cape County. We are Mississippi County. Let us adjust to that and live with it.

Why haven't the pictures from the July 4 Complex fishing tournament been published? I see the Corporate Game photos and Rodeo Pageant are printed and everything else. Where are the fishing tournament pictures at?

No pictures have been brought to us yet for publication. You may want to contact the organizers of the fishing tournament.

I want to SpeakOut abut the music and the ordinance that was just passed. I think it's a great idea. I'm seeing articles "Too quick to judge" where people think everybody playing loud music is a drug dealer. Well, most drug dealers are out on the streets and if they're playing loud music, they're plum wasted, I guess. Most drug dealers like to be like night crawlers, they like to stay hid and not be out in the open with loud music. Hey, that would do it. That would bring the police. I think a lot of them are school kids and idiots. It's a matter of respect. If you want to listen to music, fine. But everybody in the neighborhood shouldn't have to listen to it. If you want to hear it loud, get a set of head phones. I like music, but I don't want to have to hear it when someone gets out of their vehicle across the street and leaves the stereo going while they go in the house and do whatever they have to do. I listen to their music, the neighbors listen to their music, and I'm not even into that. It's a great idea that they passed the ordinance. If you want to play your stereos, go ahead. If it's too loud, they'll impound.

A new law was supposed to go into effect July 1 that all cats and dogs should be on a leash or they would be picked up. There's a lady on McDougal Avenue that has about 15 cats and if one's not having kittens, another one is. Several people on McDougal have called animal control, trying to get this matter cleaned up and they don't pay a bit of attention to them. Have they passed this law or not?

The leash ordinance is for dogs, not cats, which can still roam freely. According to Animal Control Officer Ken Fowler, the cats in question are strays that come to the McDougal Avenue home and are living under the house. The owners have been loaned traps and are trying to catch the cats, which will be taken to the humane society.
