Jim Clare

ORAN - H.F. "Jim" Clare, 90, died at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 8, 2004, at his home.

Born Sept. 16, 1913, in Montgomery City, son of the late John Sallee and Julia Augusta See Clare, he worked for the Corps of Engineers in Texas from 1937-1946 and retired as a self-employed farmer in Oran in 1979. He was of the Methodist belief.

On March 23, 1935, he married Hazel Phillips who preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1975.

He and Mary Elizabeth McElyea were married Sept. 15, 1980, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Pat Nelson of Elkins, W.Va., and Linda Maxwell of Auburn, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Martha McElyea of Kansas City; three stepsons, Charles McElyea of Camdenton and Robert McElyea and Paul McElyea of St. Louis; one sister, Margaret Griffin of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

One daughter and one brother also preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Karen Taylor will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Friend Cemetery at Oran.
