POINT PLEASANT - Joseph Ben Cayton, 81, died March 2, 2004, at his home.

Born March 29 ,1922, at Ridgely, Tenn., son of the late George and Pearl Wilson Cayton, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

On July 16, 1939, in Portageville, he married Margie Marie Anders who preceded him in death on June 11, 2003.

Survivors include: three sons, Bobby Cayton of West Memphis, Ark., Jack Cayton of Point Pleasant and Elvis Cayton of Portageville; four daughters, Susie Rhoades of Point Pleasant, Barbara Kimes of Atoka, Tenn., JoAnne O'Guinn of Sikeston and Nis Quick of Anna, Ill.; and 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Robert Cayton; one daughter, Roxanna Cayton; one brother, Cecil Cayton; three sisters, Emer Hofford, Ivie Parnell and Rose Cayton; and two half brothers, George Cayton and Billy Cayton.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Friday at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of God with the Rev. Bob Kespelher officiating.

New Madrid American Legion Post 595 will conduct graveside military rites at the Portageville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Louie Brandenburg, Rust Brandenburg, Mark Thacker, Brian Johnston, Richie Ivie and John Lane.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Portageville ball team.
