MALDEN - Elmer Chandler, 88, died Aug. 27, 2004, at Malden Nursing and Rehab.

Born July 6, 1916, in Abbott, Miss., son of the late John and Mattie Barnett Chandler, he was a member of the Prayer of Deliverance Church of God in Christ in New Madrid and a Masonic lodge in Mississippi. He was a school crossing guard for the Malden School District before retiring.

He and Annie V. Randle were married in Mississippi and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1956. In 1961, in New Madrid, he married Mary Valiant and she died Sept. 20, 1999.

Survivors include: three sons and one daughter-in-law, the Rev. Mitcheal Chandler of Memphis, Tenn., James and Lucy Chandler of Indianapolis and Billy Reid of Malden; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Mattie and Tommy Winfield and Jimmie and William Hollingshead of Memphis, Elmarie Neely, Stella and Aaron Towne and Ruth Messer of Indianapolis and Betty Reid and Margo Reid of Malden; two sisters, Stella Heard of Hamilton, Miss., and Anna Bush of Indianapolis; and 39 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were three sons, John Roger Chandler, A.C. Chandler and Ezell Chandler; and two grandsons.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. Wednesday until service time at 1 p.m. at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. The Rev. Charles Ivy will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery at Malden.
