SIKESTON - The Ward's Super Market building has been sold to O.C. Lewis of the Lewis Sales Co. Highway 61 North for $25,000, it was announced by the purchaser. Lewis said he planned to move his business into the new location as soon as he could get possession.

CHARLESTON - Warren E. Hearnes, secretary of state and Democratic candidate for governor, will be a guest at a dinner and dance in the White House in Washington D.C., tonight. Next week he will attend the Democratic National Convention at Atlantic City.

ORAN - Thomas R. Urhahn, who joined the U.S. Postal service as a part-time flexible clerk at Oran in 1980, was sworn in as postmaster at Oran Friday. Urhahn served as officer-in-charge at Oran during periods that the former postmaster was detailed to other offices. He succeeds Sandra Harvey who was promoted March 17.

NEW MADRID - In celebration of its 60th anniversary, the Bank of New Madrid made a commitment of $6,000 to the O'Bannon Family Care Center, the new obstetrics unit to be constructed at Missouri Delta Medical Center. Sam L. Hunter Jr., president/CEO and chairman of the Board, and Harriette Hunter Meyers, vice president, presented a check to Jean Collins, executive director of the MDMC Foundation. The gift is in memory of Hunter's parents, Laura and Sam Hunter.

SIKESTON - Sikeston junior hitter Jennifer Idleman practiced her spiking skills during the preseason volleyball workouts at the Field House Monday. They plan to kick off their season at Bernie on Aug. 30.
