Looking view: Project Graduation

Friday, March 16, 2007

High school is a time of long-awaited celebration for young people, but all too often it involves the use of alcohol and other drugs which lead to fatal car crashes. Developed in Maine in 1983, Project Graduation is a proven approach to preventing deaths and disabilities associated with drinking and driving at graduation parties. Project Graduation is based on the premise that it is possible to have a good time at parties without drinking or using drugs. This will be the 18th year for Project Graduation at Kelly High School.

One of the major reasons Project Graduation has been successful here is because of the people and businesses that donate so generously to our cause. It is a proven fact that when parents along with the community support their children, they will in turn support us in the future.

Senior class members have participated in fundraising right along with their parent. So far, we have worked the SEMO District Fair, Benton Neighbor Day, sponsored 50/50 raffles, AVON, Home Interior Candles and we will be selling Pizza Hut Punch Cards. However, we are still far from reaching our goal.

Our goal is to provide each participating graduate with a memorable evening of fun, food, prizes and a memory bag to take home with them. The graduating Senior Class of 2007 and their parents would appreciate your support of a monetary donation, items for attendance prizes, food or drinks associated with your business or 66 of the same item to be used to help fill the memory bag (this may include gift certificates, coupons or any other item which may pertain to your business).

If possible, please send your donation by April 1. If a later date is desired, or you need your donation to be picked up, contact one of the following chairpersons: Beverly Gean, 1157 State Highway E, Benton, Mo. 63736, 545-3656; Dana Deason, P.O.
