SIKESTON - Mrs. W.O. Dystart entertained this afternoon with a party for her son, Billy, who celebrated his first birthday.


SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. William Corrigan announce the arrival of a daughter born Monday evening, March 8, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

ORAN - About $600 in cash and merchandise was stolen from Hirschowitz Supply Store in Oran Saturday evening. Taken were nine watches, valued at $300, and about $300 from the cash register.

SIKESTON - Carla Norman was named the American Business Women's Association Woman of the Year Tuesday evening during the St. Pat's Fling Fashion Show, which was held at the Ramada Inn.


CHARLESTON - There was no war but those attending Tuesday evening's City Council session must have felt a major victory was achieved. Approximately 25 citizens were present to protest the council's consideration of amending the city's liquor ordinance.

SIKESTON - His efforts on behalf of the community as well as the Sikeston Jaycees earned Brian Menz honors as one of the Top Ten. He was named one of ten Outstanding Young Missourians by the Missouri Jaycees in February.


LIBERTY - Kalli James of Dexter, a freshman volleyball team member and biology major, was named a Jewell Scholar Athlete at William Jewell College. She is the daughter of Brenda James.


PUXICO - The Mingo National Wildlife Refuge will reopen Sunday for fishing, hiking, photography and wildlife observation, unless posted otherwise. Entrance fees are charged on the refuge from March 15-Nov. 30. A Mingo Refuge annual pass is available for $12. Daily permits are $3 and may be purchased at the refuge entrance.
