Speakout 9/7

Friday, September 7, 2007

Could someone with the soccer leagues please contact me or put in SpeakOut when the coaches are going to be contacting the parents. I was told when I signed my child up that I would be hearing from the coach in two weeks and it's going on a month now and I haven't heard anything. I'm a resident that lives on Edmondson Street. There's a house on this street that has grass that's a foot tall and the house has not been touched in two years. It is all torn up. I'm just wondering why the code enforcement can't do something about this. I've noticed it's got a stop work order on it and that's been for two years.

Over the years, the previous owner has been assessed fines totaling $300 for various property maintenance violations. The address was condemned in July of 2005 for failure to abate some construction issues. Following a foreclosure, a new owner has the intention of refurbishing the structure. A building permit was issued in November 2006 for the work to be performed. I drove the street upon receipt of this SpeakOut comment and the grass was well within the city's 10 inch maximum grass growth. If this property is out of compliance any other property for that matter is out of compliance, do not hesitate to call my office. Each of the four code officers has a portion of town they are responsible to monitor and will not find everything. I encourage the residents to assist the officer if some properties stand out in their neighborhood by calling 471-2186. This is a community effort. I don't know what the problem is with the water north of Malone and west of Main, but it is brown on a daily basis. Our clothes are being ruined and it's about time the citizens filed suit against the city for forcing us to pay for and use water that is not fit to put on the grass.

To the person who called in "Salary for Free," I guess you'll be out tomorrow ready to volunteer all your extra time to these places taking blood and giving away clothes. You don't work for free, and I can't imagine you really expect someone else to. Be realistic. The reason donations aren't totally given to the charities, is because someone has to get paid to do the job of dispersing it. It's called a nonprofit organization.
