Lady Hawks use late rally for victory

SCOTT CITY -- The Kelly High School softball team scored seven runs during its seventh inning Tuesday to secure a 10-1 win against Scott City.

The Lady Hawks (8-2 overall) plated one run in the first inning and added two more tallies in the second, and led 3-0 all the way until Scott City scored its run in the sixth.

Londyn Backfisch, who went 3-for-5, provided a huge lift to the Kelly offense in the deciding frame. Her three-run homer cleared the fence in center field during the Lady Hawks' seven-run outburst. She had four RBIs in the game.

Five different Kelly hitters collected two hits apiece as the Lady Hawks pounded out 15 hits. Sarah Ruff went 2-for-4 with a single, a double and two RBIs while Casey Kern was 2-for-4 with a single, a double and one RBI.

Ashley Flahardy added two singles in four at-bats for Kelly, which received a pair of singles each from Heather Beggs and Haley Glastetter.

Jessica Riley earned the pitching win for the Lady Hawks. She hurled seven innings, allowing one earned run with no strikeouts and one walk.

Kelly, which placed second Saturday at the Notre Dame Invitational Tournament, travels to play Sikeston at 4 p.m. today at the Sikeston Sports Complex.

The game will be the first home contest for the Lady Bulldogs (2-8 overall), who played their first ten tilts on the road this season.
