Your View: A salvation

Friday, November 2, 2007

The Sikeston Community has formed its own chapter of The Salvation Army. This is the first time in several years that Sikeston is able to be involved in this organization with the understanding that donations will solely benefit the residents of Sikeston.

The Salvation Army assistance is made available to our residents through donations. Individual donations always come through the bell ringing process done at local businesses during the holidays. This alone will not meet all the needs of Sikeston families throughout the year. Donations from you, as Sikeston businesses, are needed to make our program successful. In combining the two, we will hopefully be able to assist those in the most need.

If you are unable to make a monetary donation, we can always use volunteers from your business or organization to help with the bell ringing. If you or your group wishes to volunteer, please contact us as soon as possible so that you can secure the date best suited for your volunteers.

Volunteers will be ringing the bells at local businesses starting in November. The locations will be Food Giant (both locations), Factory Outlet Mall, Sav-A-Lot (every Saturday from Nov. 17 through Nov. 22 and the day after Thanksgiving), and Open House (Nov. 9 and 10 only) in Downtown Sikeston.

Due to limited traffic in these areas, your support is essential. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated and will be used wisely. Those receiving help will be approved on a case by case basis, with a team making the decision.

Remember, only Sikeston residents living in Scott County will be considered.

Please make checks available to The Salvation Army/Sikeston Unit and mail to 106 Arthur St. Suite A, Sikeston, Mo. 63801.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 472-5222 or email us at Nicole.J.Woolsey@dss.mo.gov or Jennifer.L.Goodch@dsss.mo.gove and our Salvation Army Board will be more than happy to help.

Thanking you in advance for your time and donation.
