SIKESTON - The junior department of the Baptist Sunday School enjoyed a picnic supper and a hike Sunday evening in the Applegate Grove.


SIKESTON - Miss Ruby Evans was a visitor in St. Louis over the weekend.

SIKESTON - The congregation of the First Baptist Church voted unanimously Sunday night to award the building contract for its new church to Brown Construction Company of Dexter. The construction will cost $515,961. This is the first phase of a building program to which a sanctuary will be added later.

SIKESTON - Sikeston and Charleston were among 14 communities in Missouri that were chosen for superior achievement awards at the awards banquet of the Missouri Roads and Streets Association.

SIKESTON - A total of 79 babies were delivered at Missouri Delta Community Hospital in August, the highest number for one month in over 10 years. The hospital provides a birthing room and many other special touches to make the delivery as easy as possible.


NEW MADRID - A masked robber netted more than $1,800 in an early morning robbery near New Madrid. According to Willis "Bo" Wingo, chief deputy with the New Madrid County Sheriff's department, the robbery was reported at 4:27 a.m. today by the gasoline station attendant at Fuel Land, located north of New Madrid at the intersection of Interstate 55.

MINER - A major milestone toward making the northern interchange a reality was achieved Tuesday when representatives of Sikeston, Miner and Scott County entered into a contract to create a joint transportation board.


SIKESTON - Lindsey Allison Grimes, a 20-month-old who was born with an atrial ventricular heart defect, was chosen as the Heart Child for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk to take place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Her mother, Billie Warth stated, "I am so excited she was chosen. It is an honor to have her progress noticed by the Heart Association."
