CHARLESTON - Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Putnam Sr. visited in Charleston Thursday and attended a family dinner given for Mrs. Putnam's father, S.P. Loebe, who celebrated his 78th birthday.

SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Joe Arbaugh announce the arrival of a son born Oct. 10 at St. Francis Hospital in Cape.

SIKESTON - A moving picture about police work and the police role in society was shown to the Rotary Club last night at the Rustic Rock Inn. Chief of Police Arthur Bruce described the picture, "The Thin Blue Line," after an introduction by Chip Schmerbauch. Police Sgt. Leonard L. Campbell was projectionist.

KELSO - Merchandise valued at $550 was taken in a burglary at Burger Hardware Store and the post office was broken into this morning.

SIKESTON - The potential landfill crisis facing the Sikeston area was discussed briefly at both the Sikeston 2000 Committee meeting Tuesday night and the Sikeston City Council's weekly briefing Wednesday morning.

SIKESTON - Peggy Busby and Harriet Cento displayed some of fall's newest styles which will be modeled at the Eighth Annual Sikeston Junior Women's Club Tasting Tea and Fashion Show. The event will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Sikeston Middle School.

SIKESTON - Bob Depro, Sikeston Senior High economics and American history teacher, was recently selected out of over 55,000 teachers as one of six finalists for the title Teacher of the Year. Depro is known for his humor and ability to grab the undivided attention of his students and his desire to earn the respect of the pupils.

MATTHEWS - Mindy Wolford, 8-year-old daughter of Denver and Cheryl Wolford of Matthews and third grade student at Matthews Elementary School, is the October Student of the Month at Duncan's Martial Arts.
