Whitaker wins Super Pro at drag strip
SIKESTON -- Cecil Whitaker of Dexter edged Rob Sample of Cape Girardeau to win the Super Pro feature race at the Sikeston Drag Strip on Saturday.
Whitaker averaged 135.09 mph in an elapsed time of 5.102 seconds with a dial-in of 5.10 and a reaction time of .525 seconds, while Sample averaged 136.73 mph with an e.t. of 5.058 (5.06 dial-in) and a r.t. of 5.25.
In a special feature event, Stephen Stringer of Somerset, Ky., captured the Automatic Outlaws race in a scorching 4.605 seconds with an average speed of 137.23 mph and an r.t. of .490.
Ivan Alford of Philadelphis, Miss., limped home for a second-place finish in 8.683 seconds at 48.65 mph.
Tony Jacques of Campbell claimed the top prize in the Pro class with an average speed of 106.10 mph in 6.392 seconds with a dial-in of 6.39 and a r.t. of .596.
Tyler Miller of Clarkton took second in the Pro class with a run of 110.34 mph with an e.t. of 6.088 (dial-in 6.09) and a r.t. of .560.
In the ET class, Bill Hooker of Herrin, Ill., was the winner at 79.80 mph with an e.t. of 8.215 (8.24 dial-in) with a r.t. of .528.
Daniel Pharris of Sikeston took second place in the ET class with a speed of 97.12 mph in an e.t. of 7.120 (7.12 dial-in) and a r.t. of .627.
