Sikeston resident killed in accident

GRASSY -- A Sikeston man sustained fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident Saturday in Wayne County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 5:30 p.m., John E. Ward, 70, of Sikeston was driving his motorcycle westbound on Highway 34, seven miles west of Grassy, and an accident occurred when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Ward was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene at 6 p.m. by Wayne County Coroner Alex Ruegg.

Also, in Hiram, an Oran teenager was seriously injured after his vehicle overturned Saturday in Wayne County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports at 11 p.m. on county road 203 in Hiram, an accident occurred as southbound motorist Austin L. Dumey, 18, of Oran traveled off the left side of the roadway, returned to the road and overturned.

Dumey was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
