SHS girls defeat Twin Rivers

BROSELEY -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs won their opener at the ninth annual Lady Royals Christmas Classic on Saturday.

No. 7-seed Sikeston, with Alli Blurton and Latoya Gipson leading the way, defeated No. 10 Twin Rivers 65-46 to advance to the winners bracket quarterfinals.

Blurton, the Lady Dogs' leading scorer, again topped the scoring column with 20 points while Gipson had 17.

Sikeston (4-3) led 17-6 after the first quarter, then saw host Twin Rivers narrow the halftime margin to eight at 30-22.

Twin Rivers closed to within seven at 41-34 going into the final period. The Lady Dogs sealed the win with their most productive scoring quarter in the fourth with 24 points while holding the Lady Royals to 12.

Keyarra Blissett and Whitney McCray chipped in with eight points apiece and Martika Davis added seven.

Kaylee Blue led Twin Rivers with eight points.

Sikeston meets No. 2-seed Kelly (4-1) today at 8:30 p.m.
