Pewitt sets Sharks record

DEXTER - Sikeston Sharks swimmer Jake Pewitt set a new team record in the 13-14 year old boys 200 Meter Individual Relay as the Sharks placed third in a Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Swim Meet in Dexter on June 18.

The Sharks were part of 255 swimmers from Kennett, Scott City, Poplar Bluff and Dexter.

The previous record was held by Ben Marshall. Pewitt also finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke and second in the 100-meter butterfly.

Other first place finishers included Mary Anne Kendig who placed first in the 11-12 girls 50 meter breaststroke, butterfly and 200 meter IM, Mary Liz Klueppel in the 8 and under girls 25-meter breaststroke, Victoria Moy in the 15-18 year old girls 100 meter butterfly, and Natalie Stevens in the 9-10 girls 50 meter backstroke.

Second place finishers included Andrew Cooper in the 6 and under boys 25 meter backstroke, Anna Kate Klueppel in the 6 and under girls 25 meter breaststroke, and Ryan Long in the 11-12 boys 50 meter breaststroke.

Third place finishers included Will Bloemer in 7-8 year old boys 50 meter freestyle, Andrew Cooper in the 6 and under boys 25 meter breaststroke, Cassidy Jackovic in the 8 and under girls 25 meter backstroke, Anna Kate Klueppel in the 6 and under girls 25 meter backstroke, Mary Liz Klueppel in the 7-8 year old girls 25 meter freestyle and 100 meter individual medley, Ryan Long in the 11-12 year old boys 50 meter backstroke, Kristin Medley in the 13-14 year old girls 100-meter butterfly, Victoria Moy in 15-18 year old girls 100 meter 100-meter breaststroke, and Madeline Urhahn in the 6 and under girls 25 meter freestyle.

Several older Sikeston Swimmers will be competing in the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Long Course Championships at Poplar Bluff on June 25. Swimmers who finish in the top 3 at this meet qualify to go on the AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans, LA. On July 9 the Sharks travel to Scott City to take on Cape Girardeau and Scott City.
